The Allure of “Azure”: Meeting the Highest U.S. Construction and Architectural Standards
  • “Azure” is an impressive tower of luxury condominiums conceived under the guidelines of sustainable architecture
  • Vitro America supplied 143,000 square feet of insulated glass for this building that appears to blend itself into the blue skies of Dallas

Due to the blue tint used in the glass “Azure” blends in with the blue skies of Dallas.

Vitro America, Vitro’s subsidiary in the USA, supplied 143,000 square feet of 1” [24mm] Guardian NP 61 on clear insulated glass for the construction of “Azure”, one of the most representative structures of sustainable architecture in the Dallas, Texas area.

The tower is an impressive 31 stories high with more than 200 luxury apartments located in Uptown Dallas. The construction took more than three years to complete; however, the allure of the end product well justifies the timeframe.

This structure appears to blend into the characteristic clear blue skies of Dallas thanks to the blue tint used in the glass manufacturing process. Besides its striking beauty, “Azure” complies with the highest standards in the area of sustainability.

“There is a high probability that the building will be certified with the LEED “Gold” classification, the second highest award in the area of leadership in energy efficiency and sustainable design that is given by the Green Construction Council for the United States”, confirms Alice Dickerson, Sales Director for Vitro America.

Currently, only the Operations Center at “Hensley Field” holds such status in Dallas. “Azure” could well be the second, unless of course it receives the highest level of certification, LEED “Platinum”.

The Leadership for Energy and Sustainability (LEED) is an evaluation process that encourages the adoption of best practices in green construction projects on a global level through the creation and implementation of universally accepted guidelines and performance criteria.

The building team included Developer, Harwood International, Architect, James Cheng Architects, Inc., Vancouver, British Columbia; General Contractor, Balfour Beatty, London; Glazing Contractor, Haley-Greer, Inc., Dallas, Texas; Glass Fabricator, Vitro America, Dallas, Texas.

“We are extremely proud to have participated in the realization of this sustainable project together with some really true professionals in their specialties”, adds Dickerson.

Vitro America also fabricated 3/8” clear tempered with high polished edgework for the balcony guardrails. The unitized metal system by X-Clad, Birmingham, Alabama was assembled and shop glazed in Dallas by Haley-Greer, Inc.

“The Dallas Observer” newspaper referred to this luxury condominium tower as “The Allure of Azure” and, although the real name of this impressive design is simply “Azure”, when one has the opportunity to appreciate its beauty and magnetism it is easy to understand why the newspaper was accurate in its description.
