MUVI participates in “Environmentart” and Expo Help 2009

  • It seeks to stimulate the creativity in children through activities that include using glass as an artistic element
  • It encourages children to visit museums in the company of their family

750 children had fun while learning in the “Time Capsule” workshop.

Consistent with its philosophy of bringing children closer to the world of culture and stimulate the artistic talent within them, The Glass Museum (MUVi) participated in the Expo Help 2009 as well as the XIII National Summer Cultural Promotion nicknamed “Environmentart”.

The workshop focused on a written reflection and painting on glass during the Expo Help 2009 that took place at the International Business Center in Monterrey (CINTERMEX) on September 4 to 6 and brought together more than 200 formal organizations, non political nor religious, from Society that are dedicated to social development and assistance.

“Through this workshop called “The Time Capsule” the children wrote down their wishes and expectations for the future on a piece of paper which they tucked away in a bottle that they then decorated with images that alluded to their goals and objectives”, explains Andrea Delgado Head of Educational Services for the Glass Museum.

She adds that the objective was for the children to reflect that, as in the case of glass, things we wish for in this life take time to obtain and perfect. In this activity, undertaken by 750 youngsters, their goals are “protected” in a glass bottle that they should cherish as, in the case of life, it is fragile.

With regards to “Environmentart”, an initiative that seeks to sensitize children to environmental care as well as encouraging them to visit museums, MUVi is a very active participant in the State Network of Museums for Nuevo Leon.

The participants were challenged to visit at least 15 of the 19 museums that participated in this cultural event in order to receive a surprise gift. Upon registering for this particular promotion, that took place from July 18 to August 23, the entrance fee was waivered at all participating museums.

“We had an excellent turnout as thousands of children participated of which 205 qualified for their surprise gift and diploma for having visited at least 15 cultural centers; we were very pleased to have had 478 visitors at MUVi under this program”, she explains.
