Vitro and the Mayan Group of Acapulco join forces
With a firm commitment to leaving a better world to future generations, Vitro and the Mayan Group of Acapulco agreed to join forces and recently signed an accord to recycle glass containers. The signing of the agreement took place on July 24th at the hotel installations of the Hotel Mayan in Acapulco, Guerrero on the Mexican pacific coast. Present were Giuseppi Vanzani, General Manager of the hotel; René Castrejón, Chief Legal Council for the hotel chain; Carlos Soberanis, Coordinator of Green Globe 21; and Javier Leal, Ecology and Recycling Manager for the Vitro Glass Container business unit. “We are very satisfied to finalize this agreement where Grupo Mayan of Acapulco will gather and deliver to Vitro all glass containers that are used in their installations as well as all glass containers gathered from the homes of their employees for the purpose of supporting the concept of recyling as we recycle these containers”, commented Leal. He added that there exists strong motivation on the part of the Mayan Group of Acapulco, an organization that supports long term environmental protection initiatives and that has been working intensely over the past few months to earn the Green Globe 21 certification promoted by sustainable tourism groups. “Among the multiple activities that we are undertaking for the purpose of promoting sustainable tourism (the concept of working and operating without damaging the environment), we are adding this glass recyling initiative which seeks to reduce the amount of solid waste that is destined for the municipal landfill”, confirmed Vanzani. Through 151 different projects in conjunction with schools, citizen associations, municipal governments, and internal programs, Vitro joined forces to recycle more than 1,798 tons of glass containers in 2006, alone. |
