With the purpose of contributing to the professional development of students of architecture, broadening their understanding of the special properties and applications of glass in future urban projects as well as deepening their knowledge of this material as a sustainable element in architectural design, Vitro and the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Monterrey Campus, signed on August 9th an agreement for academic sponsorship by creating the “Cátedra Vitro” beginning this semester that started in August 2007. Through this agreement signed today by Federico Sada, CEO of Vitro, and Rafael Rangel Sostmann, Dean of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, both institutions joined forces and will combine efforts in the areas of teaching and training through a university-company link that will strengthen theoretical and practical training for students who enroll in the program. Referring to this agreement both leaders emphasized that the purpose of the “Cátedra Vitro” is to teach students of architecture the latest state-of-the-art knowledge and understanding of current applications of glass in modern day architecture and to promote the use of the this material as a practical solution to current construction requirements and sustainability with a long term benefit for the general population.
“The intrinsic qualities, design potential and durability that glass offers builders is very extensive which is a fundamental reason to share the knowledge of its applications among the architects of the future to favor the material’s acceptance as a “value added” solution for end users, building specialists and even installers”, stated Federico Sada. He added that he was very enthusiastic about contributing to the effort of offering a new alternative that will deepen the knowledge of the students of architecture of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, his alma mater and institution that has distinguished itself by preparing several generations of students with knowledge, responsibility and commitment to the community and work ethic. During each semester the students will develop three projects which in one of them the students will apply substantially their newly acquired knowledge and understanding for the use of glass in architecture. This project will be the basis for their successfully completing the course with the best projects being displayed in the Glass Museum. Once again Vitro reaffirms its social responsibility and commitment to participate in multiple efforts that benefit the community through its academic programs in universities, technology schools and institutions of higher learning. |
