Vitro Packaging kicks off its recycling program
  • The employees of Vitro’s subsidiary in the USA have organized themselves to separate recyclable and non-recyclable waste.
  • The initiative seeks to enhance awareness over the importance of recycling and the savings it can generate.

The program encourages a culture for pro-environment among the personnel.

With the objective of separating waste, saving resources and promoting a culture towards ecology, the employees of Vitro Packaging, the US subsidiary of the Glass Containers Vitro business unit, on January 7th kicked off a new recycling program.

The initiative consists of installing a smaller container in each waste can of the offices so that all non-recyclables can be placed there such as: styrofoam, facial tissues and plastic or foil packaging; while in the regular waste can recyclable wastes are deposited such as containers made of glass, plastic, paper or cardboard.

Additionally a 32 gallon green bin has been placed in the employee lounge that is for recyclable waste. Next to the waste can is a wall poster with pictures of different products and their classification as recyclable or non-recyclable.

“Through this initiative we are encouraging all of us in the workplace to become familiar with and practice a culture of recycling as we all are convinced that small efforts can make a big difference for a cleaner environment”, affirms Annette Hernandez, Recycling Program Manager.

She adds that through recycling we attain significant savings that come from less pick ups scheduled with the waste management company. Recycling “pick ups” cost less and can be scheduled less frequently.

“The vast majority of materials consumed in the office are recyclable, which offers a great opportunity to recycle and contribute to a larger and more positive impact on the environment; also we are making a conscious effort to gradually eliminate the use of any item made from styrofoam”, she explains.

John T. Shaddox, Vitro Packaging Director, underscores that in Vitro Packaging there is great sense of pride in being part of a company that soon will celebrate 100 years of working with glass, a material that is 100% recyclable.

“Our customers realize that glass containers are the best packaging option for food and beverages as they neither alter flavors nor aromas of their contents, on top of glass being the only material that is 100% recyclable making it totally environmentally friendly”, he assures us.

With the start up of this recycling program, Vitro Packaging establishes a good example of healthy practices that seek to lead to a better world for future generations.
