The Glass Museum exhibits “The Bacarrat Treasures”
The Glass Museum is shining brightly by presenting for the first time on the American Continent the exposition “The Bacarrat Treasures”, a legacy that France has collected over the last 250 years and that distinguishes itself by being the leader in the manufacture of fine luxury crystal. More than 150 select pieces of chandeliers, candelabras and fine glasses form part of this majestic exposition that was inaugurated last April 24 and will be on display in the Museum’s Gallery until next July 27. “It is an honor and privilege for the Museo de Vidrio to be entrusted with this marvelous collection and be a bridge of union, not only between our two countries, but a whole world of people who admire and enjoy fine art in manufactured crystal”, commented on opening day Liliana Melo de Sada, Chairwoman of the Board of the Glass Museum. Among the works that form part of the collection are a selection of some of the best pieces that are tied to famous world persons such as Louis XVIII, Pope John Paul II and the Shah of Iran. Also, creations are on exhibit by important contemporary artists such as; Marcial Berro, Georges Chevalier, Van Day Truex, Vincent Dupont-Rougier, Arik Levy, Robert Rigot, Roberto Sambonet, Inga Sempé, Ettore Sottsass, Philippe Starck, además de Coco Chanel y Dior, among others. Through “The Bacarrat Treasures” exhibition the visitor can admire the outstanding workmanship from the artists and craftsmen that have formed part of the firm, world leader in luxury crystal glass craftsmanship, since its creation in 1764 as well as the transition in styles, fashion and designs from past to present. “We seek through this exposition to motivate and inspire designers, craftsman and artists from within our country as well as beyond our borders”, commented Rosa María González, Glass Museum Director. Since its founding 16 years ago, the Museo del Vidrio has presented 40 temporary exhibitions and in some cases has spearheaded the attraction of international expositions that had never been presented on the American Continent before.
