Luis de Garrido is chosen as “Architect of the Year 2008”

The Award is given by the International Steel Building Association.
Among his projects the Vitrohouse and R4House are noteworthy, as these two projects represent sustainable avant-garde homes in which Vitro Cristalglass played a very important role.

R4House.

La Asociación Internacional de Arquitectura Modular Metálica (International Steel Building Association, ISBA) has chosen Luis de Garrido as “Architect of the Year 2008” for his professional work in sustainable architecture, for his extensive training and reach, and for his concepts used in Vitrohouse and “R4House” where he had close support by Vitro Cristalglass, a subsidiary of Vitro’s Flat Glass business unit in Europe.

Glass has been a key element in several of his projects as evidenced by “R4House” which is comprised of two homes with bio-climatic properties (energy savings) that comply with all of the sustainable architecture standards by including the 4 “R’s”: Recycle, Recover, Reuse and Rationality.

In his selection of materials needed for the construction of “R4House” the environmental characteristics of the products used was a dominant factor for which glass became an indispensible material in his creative design.

In the case of Vitrohouse, Luis de Garrido envisioned a home constructed entirely from glass without using any other material. His objective was to show the multiple possibilities that glass provides in the construction industry, yet to be fully exploited.

Vitroglass collaborated in both projects by supplying different types of value added glass such as laminated security glass Multipact, Isolar Sun-Flex and, at that time, the newly introduced Superdual-T, among others.

Hand in hand with Luis de Garrido, Architect of the Year 2008, Vitro Cristalglass shows its commitment to sustainable architecture, for its concern and care of the environment, and for keeping our focus on being at the avant-garde in glass.
