The “Reflections of History” exhibit is inaugurated
  • 140 pieces of art from the Glass Museum Collection are on display in Nuevo Laredo .
  • This is the first time the exhibit leaves Monterrey.

The exhibit shows the evolution of glass.

On this past December 2, 2008 in the José Reyes Meza Museum in the Cultural Center of Nuevo Laredo the Exhibit “Reflections of History” was opened. The show contains approximately 140 pieces of art from the Glass Museum (MUVi) and its objective is to lead the observer through the different stages of glass evolution in México.

“The various stages are represented by examples of popular art in glass, useful and industrial specimens manufactured in México and contemporary works of art that have become part of the cultural heritage of MUVi through the glass art contests that have been promoted over the last 16 years”, assures us the Glass Museum Director, Rosa María González.

The show brings together pieces from the different showrooms that are found at the museum in Monterrey including natural pre-Hispanic crystal pieces as well as colonial glass, popular pieces, stained glass windows, the beginnings of the glass industry and contemporary art.

It is worth mentioning that this is the first time the show has left Monterrey and will be on display in Nuevo Laredo through the end of January 2009 and is open to the general public at no cost.

At the opening event more than 150 people attended including the city Mayor as well as local cultural authorities.

“I wish to thank the José Reyes Meza Museum personnel, its Director, Rosa del Carmen, the Nuevo Laredo City Council and particularly the City Mayor, Ramón Garza Barrios, his council members and all the members of his government for having invited us to show “Reflections in History” and give the opportunity to all Tamaulipecos for more options of cultural and social development; we are comforted by the fact that there are other people who appreciate and support art” commented González before a large audience.
