Highly Popular, the Vitro stand was one of the most visited at the fair

With the objective of creating awareness among the community that the consumption of products packaged in glass helps protect the environment, since it is a material that is 100% recyclable, Vitro was an active participant in this year’s 2007 Recycling Fair in the municipality of Atizapán de Zaragoza located in the central state of Mexico.

The event took place from the 22nd of November through the 24th in the town square in front of city hall and was visited by more than 2,000 visitors.

“We are very satisfied with our participation in this event as the Vitro stand was one of the most visited by the attendees who showed deep interest and great enthusiasm as they learned about the superior advantages that glass provides for the environment”, affirms Felipe Castillo, who is responsible for coordinating the community affairs from Vitro’s Vidriera Mexico plant.

He adds that over the three day period that the event took place our team emphasized the multiple benefits and good qualities that glass offers.

“Glass is the best option for packaging all types of food and beverages, since it is a material that is totally environmentally friendly and neither alters the flavors nor aromas of the products contained within and maintains freshness for a longer period of time”, he assures us.

During the event the municipality Mayor Gonzalo Alarcón was present as well as other municipal dignitaries, non governmental organizations that focus on recycling and higher education institutions.

“We were able to arouse the interest of various educational institutions to visit some of the Vitro manufacturing plants near the municipality in order to learn about the glass manufacturing process and seek ways to help contribute to the recycling campaigns that we conduct”, comments Alejandro Muñoz, who also shares the responsibilities for community relations at the Vidriera Mexico plant.

Muñoz concludes that promoting the recycling of glass as a means to preserve the environment is not something new to Vitro and as proof of that fact was our participation in the 2005 Recycling Fair in the Naucalli Park in Naucalpan, also in the State of Mexico.

In addition, just in 2006 alone, Vitro sponsored more than 150 recycling programs in Mexico in innumerable collection centers located in schools, hospitals, shopping and recreational centers, hotels, towns and waste disposal locations throughout the country.
