Vitro forms part of the formidable "City of Wine"
Vitro Cristalglass, a Vitro subsidiary on the Iberian Peninsula, supplied the more than 1,200 square meters of architectural glass used in the construction of the “City of Wine”, one of the most ambitious projects undertaken in current times in Spain and carries the unmistakable style of the famous Canadian architect Frank Gehry, creator of the Guggenheim Museum located in the city of Bilbao. Located in the Spanish province of Álava in Basque country whose capitol is Vitoria about 350 kilometers to the north of Madrid, this impressive complex extends over an area of close to 100,000 square meters dedicated solely to the production, caring for and study of wine making. In addition to having a luxury hotel, a wine therapy spa, a gourmet restaurant, and a meeting and conference center, this project premiers an authentic old wine cellar dating back to 1860, an initiative of Marqués de Riscal, that has been completely renovated to form part of one of the most modern buildings in the world. “We’re very proud to have been chosen by Umaran, a co-op organization, to participate in this ambitious project that proved to be a major challenge in the integration of the diverse elements of the state of the art architecture”, confirmed Alberto Gómez, Vitro Cristalglass Marketing Manager. Some of the building elements that stand out are the efficient composition of the double pained glass “Isolar” that permits the attainment of considerable thermal and acoustic isolation. This material is composed of “Multipack” security glass, combined with “Neutralux” windows that are of low light emission and solar control glass “Solarluz Natural 60/40”, characterized by its high light transmitting capability with reduced harmful solar rays.
“Besides the security and esthetic qualities, our products bring an added value to the structure that permits a significant reduction in energy needs generating important savings through reduced reliance on internal climate control”, explains Gómez. In addition to the glass, Vitro provided technical support for the selection of the best materials most suited for this project and with the optimum crystal composition. The “City of Wine”, with its rolling sheets, signifying the life and movement of wine, is the result of the joining of the best wine making tradition of this part of Spain with modern architectural and state of the art design, converting this enclave into a unique experience for the lovers of oenology tourism. Through our participation in this project, in Vitro we reconfirm our commitment towards initiatives that promote sustainable growth and offer products that contribute to the preservation of the environment as well as our collaboration in local projects that encourage cultural development in the areas where we have a presence. |
