Last October 24 in Ponferrada, Spain, the publication “The Ages of Bierzo” was sponsored by Vitro Cristalglass, a subsidiary of Vitro in Europe, and that the newspaper “El Diario de Leon” delivered to its readers.

This outstanding work spreads the riches, traditions and legacy of the district of Castilla y León, situated in the Province of León in the north of Spain, about 250 miles from Madrid.

The presentation took place in the Bierzo Museum with the attendance of Fernando Aller, Director of the daily newspaper Diario de León; Carlos López Riesco, Mayor of Ponferrada; Javier Tomé, author of the publication; and José Manuel Álvarez, Director of Operations for Vitro Cristalglass.

“In the name of all of us who form part of the Vitro family I wish to take this opportunity to extend my most sincere congratulations to the Diario de León and particularly to Javier Tomé, author of this extraordinary collection of the great history of Bierzo”, expressed Álvarez to the room filled audience.

Álvarez assured the audience that Vitro strives to contribute to and find synergies with communities where it conducts operations as it forms part its business model and falls in line with the philosophy of social responsibility embraced by the company.

“We appreciate the opportunity that we’ve been given to solidify, once again, our commitment and social vocation to contribute to the rise in awareness and history of Bierzo” he confirmed.

He took advantage of the occasion to point out that there is high motivation to participate in this Project with the Diario de León, as it’s a newspaper that celebrates its first 100 years of publishing.

“As you all may know in 2009, Vitro will also be celebrating its 100 year anniversary, during this period we have been witnesses to the history of Nuevo León and México as well as the growth and economic and social development of a country that in today’s age permits us to establish operations in Spain and many other countries in the world”, he added.

“The Ages of Bierzo” was sponsored by Vitro Cristalglass.

He remembered that since Vitro arrived to Bierzo in 2001 it has integrated exceptionally well with this enterprising community, rich with opportunities for all sectors which has permitted the company to expand further to the rest of the Iberian Peninsula and other countries of the European community.

“As a neighbor of this district I’m very confident that Bierzo sill continue to grant us opportunities to write new chapters of success to which Vitro wishes to continue participate in”, he concluded.

In this way Vitro reaffirms its commitment to participate in initiatives that strive to promote cultural awareness with the objective of exercising a degree of positive influence in the communities where it conducts business.
