Vitro successfully concludes its campaign “Naturalmente Vitro”

  • Employees planted 3,500 trees and 2,000 plants called “Flor Española”
  • The campaign contributes to a better quality of the air we breathe as well as strengthen the conservation efforts for the Monarch butterfly

Employees were very enthusiastic during the campaign.

For the third consecutive year Vitro employees enthusiastically participated in the campaign “Naturally Vitro” by planting 3,500 trees and 2,000 plants called “Flor Española” (Spanish Flower) which are of vital importance to the biological cycle of the Monarch butterfly whose yearly migratory movements are a true wonder of nature.

The Wildlife Organization A.C. (OVIS), in coordination with the Corporate Communication and Social Responsibility area as well as Human Resources for Containers, Float Glass and Corporate Headquarters, carried out the annual event for urban reforestation on this past June 29 and 30 in different cities and countries where Vitro has operations.

“We wish to thank all the employees and their families who decidedly embraced this noble initiative; as with their cooperation we contribute to the improvement of air quality as well as strengthen the conservation of the Monarch butterfly in its migratory journey through the Monterrey metro area”, confirms Sergio Jiménez, Administrative Manager for OVIS.

This year the campaign, whose objective was the conservation of the environment through tree planting in México and the countries where Vitro operates, strengthened itself by broadening its platform to contemplate the planting of a peculiar plant called “Flor Española” (Spanish Flower) whose scientific name is Asclepia curassavica thanks to the invaluable support by the Parks and Wildlife Services of Nuevo Leon.

“The Monarch butterflies feed on this plant in its annual journey through Monterrey towards their wintering grounds in the “Oyamel” (Pine) tree forests on the borders of the states of Michoacán and the State of México, depositing their eggs on the plant which transform into the butterfly larvae that feed only on the Asclepia plant where they then transform into butterflies and return to the northeast USA and southern Canada”, explains Jiménez.

With the successful conclusion of this “green” campaign, Vitro once again assumes its social responsibility to promote a culture that is “pro” environment in order to leave a cleaner and more transparent environment to future generations.
