Vitro initiates a program for school children visits to its factories

Sowing the seeds for a pro-ecology culture.

For the purpose of introducing students from the elementary and secondary levels to a broader understanding of the origin of glass, its manufacturing process as well as its characteristics and environmental benefit, Vitro has undertaken a program of school visits to its glass container manufacturing facilities.

“The program is geared towards boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14 and seeks to infuse into the minds of these “future decision makers” a preference towards a glass culture, a material that is 100% recyclable”, stated Roberto Romero, Marketing Director for the Vitro Glass Containers business unit.

During the month of June, 95 students and teachers from the elementary level took advantage of the program. Each group is comprised of 30 children and teachers and is guided by an instructor that explains, in a dynamic manner, each step of the manufacturing process.

He explains, “The youngsters are very pleased with the tour which begins with an introduction video followed by a physical tour of the plant to understand the areas of furnaces, molds, labeling and decoration and finished product packaging of the final glass container”.

At the end of the tour a question and answer session is held to understand what most interested the students and clarify any questions they might have.

“This initiative came about as the result of several studies we conducted to understand the knowledge of children about glass, in which we discovered that there was a great realm of opportunity in promoting a culture of ecology and responsible consumption at a very young age”, he assures us.

Through this program Vitro contributes to the opening of a whole new platform of learning so that the end user consumer can testify to the benefits of consuming products packaged in glass containers, a material that is completely friendly to the environment.
