The Glass Museum joins the Mexican Red Cross national collection.

The activities of the Glass Museum are multiplying. Proof of this is that over the past few weeks it has joined the Mexican Red Cross national collection drive and the state crusade against violence. In addition it was the ideal location for the performance of the singing group “Something Extra”.

“Congruent with the spirit of social and community responsibility that is embraced by our institution, we have decided to join the Mexican Red Cross national collection campaign through the placement of 2 donation boxes, one at our ticket booth and a second in the museum store”, confirms Paulette Moreno, Glass Museum Director.

With approximately 27,000 volunteers all over the country the Red Cross collection drive in Mexico, this year celebrating its 98th anniversary, will end on March 30.

Moreno tells us that the Glass Museum also is participating very actively in the state prevention crusade “We all have the right to a violence free life”, an initiative that is headed by the Family Integral Development program (DIF), a decentralized government of Nuevo Leon organization.

Our participation is centered on the distribution of materials at the ticket booth, the placement of posters on the message boards of Vidriera Monterrey and Clínica Vitro, as well as conducting a dynamic interchange talk given by the DIF during our summer courses.

“These actions allow us to promote among the population a culture of tolerance, respect, peace and love among family members and work teams; all of us can put our little grain of salt towards constructing a better world”,

On top of these activites, this past March 11th in The Glass Museum Auditorium the choral group “Something Extra”, made up of 14 students from Yale University, presented there very entertaining show where they interpreted original songs from Carole King, Tracy Chapman, Van Morrison and Cole Porter, among others.

“All of the people attending the show enjoyed the special presentation commemorating Women’s Month which took place in a historic location that once was an active Vitro glass furnace; for all of us it was very entertaining to welcome this choral group that has toured a broad range of countries on both the American and European Continents”, she assures us.

Moreno points out that at the conclusion of the performance, the audience that filled the charming auditorium, could appreciate a magnificent “Madonna” handcrafted by using the mosaic glass technique on the alter of sorrow “Rain of Tears” conceived by the talented local regional artist Miranda Sada and produced by the Glass Art Workshop “Alberto Barovier”.
