If each person were to recycle just one glass container per year we would save the volume of water that 400 families consume each month. In addition we would avoid burning petroleum that is equivalent to what Cuernavaca utilizes in 3 days and we would free up enough space from garbage dumps to plant 200 trees. It’s now time to recycle glass! It is for this reason that Vitro joined forces with the campaign “Environmental Awareness” that seeks to strengthen community participation in the face of the shared responsibility we all have regarding environmental protection. Created by the Metropolitan Autonomous University – Azcapotzalco Campus and Locomotora Productora Visual, the project seeks active participation by celebrities from the Mexican entertainment world that share an interest in promoting a broader awareness among the community towards conservation and the sustainable use of the environment. “Our participation is centered in the printing and distributing of 11,000 pamphlets, that inform the reader about the importance of glass recycling, in major restaurants, bars, universities and libraries in the Federal District”, explains Fernanda Gutiérrez, Head of Advertising and Promotion for the Glass Containers business unit of Vitro. She adds that glass containers are environmentally friendly as they are 100% recyclable and do not release toxic substances into the environment in its process of degradation. “It is very motivating to direct this initiative whose origin came from the university community as the students of today are especially sensitive to environmental issues and are efficient agents for change”, she comments. The campaign is permanent and is based on tangible and objective solutions that prioritize recycling and habits of the consuming Mexicans to make available to the recipient information that is easy to understand that leads to simple, viable and real tasks and measures for the conservation and care of the environment. We all can contribute to a better world for future generations… It’s time to start to recycle glass! |
