• It grants food scholarships to the best grade averages in an elementary school in the state of Mexico.
  • To date approximately 150 students have benefited from the program.

The company grants 12 scholarships every 2 months to the highest grade point averages.

For the purpose of granting food scholarships to those students who excel at the Cuauhtémoc Xalostoc elementary school, in the state of México, the company began a program in 2003 called the “Community Scholastic Performance” initiative. Through this effort around 150 students have benefited from it.

According to Jesús Ordorica, Human Resources Manager for Vitro Automotive Crinamex Xalostoc Plant and Vallejo Plant, all children attending the school have an opportunity to qualify for the program.

“Every two months the best grade point averages for each grade are selected to determine which of the students will be benefited with the scholarship which consists of a market basket of 30 basic food items that is delivered to the parents”, he points out.

Currently the company grants 12 scholarships every two months, and in the full school year a total of 72 scholarships, to this school which forms part of the Integrated School System for the state of México.

The establishment of this initiative has: elevated the nutritional health of the students with excellent grades, that come from low income families; motivated the parents of students to encourage their children to achieve scholastic excellence; improved the school’s image and in general has elevated the performance of the whole student body.

“Since starting up this program in the school year 2002-2003 the level of unjustified absenteeism has been cut in half and the number of students who win awards in the Children’s Scholastic Olympics has increased”, states Delfino Cervantes, Cuauhtémoc Xalastoc Elementary School Director.

Of the 55 thousand elementary schools in México the Cuauhtémoc Xalostoc school is ranked number 182, having advanced 19 positions over the last 4 years, based on the results of the ENLACE exam that is conducted yearly by the Secretary of Public Education of México.

“We are convinced that our commitment goes beyond just offering quality goods and services; for this reason we add our grain of salt so the students from the area surrounding our facility may improve their school performance and, consequently, improve the quality of life of our neighbors”, Joemi Flores, Human Resources Assistant assures us.
